General Information
Cost, fields, awards & venue
- Cost: $300 — make checks payable to Hayward Little League.
- Fields: 3 fields at one location.
- Umpires on each field.
- Teams are expected to be ready to play 30 minutes prior to their scheduled game time. Games may begin early if field availability permits.
- Schedule: Round robin play with each team playing every other team once, followed by a championship round based on seeding. All scheduling, scores, rules, and updates will be available at HaywardBaseball.com.
- Awards: Individual awards for 1st place (rings) & 2nd place (medals), plus a team trophy.
- Teams should have proof of age available, including a birth certificate.
- Field Location: Next to the Hayward Sports Center at 10475 Sutliff Drive, Hayward, Wisconsin.
- The home team will occupy the 3rd base dugout and the visiting team will occupy the 1st base dugout unless otherwise directed by tournament officials.
Rosters & Substitutions
Age cutoff, roster size & lineups
- Age Cutoff: Based on player age as of April 30th, 2026. Proof of age may be requested.
- Roster Size: Maximum of 15 players.
Batting
- Teams will bat the entire roster.
- Open defensive substitutions are permitted.
Defense
- U12: 9 players in the field.
- U10: 10 players in the field (4 players in the outfield).
Bats & Equipment
Bat rules & inspections
- All bats must be marked with the USA/USSSA stamp.
- No specific weight/length ratio limit.
- Wood, metal, or composite bats are allowed.
- Rolled, shaved, or otherwise altered bats in any way are prohibited.
- The use of foreign substances, pine tar beyond legal application, sticky substances, adhesives, or grip-enhancing materials intended to provide an unfair competitive advantage is prohibited.
- Teams possessing equipment that does not meet these standards may be forced to forfeit.
- Equipment is subject to inspection by tournament officials at any time.
Pitching Rules
Innings limits & mound visits
- Max 3 innings per game, 6 total innings for the tournament.
- No pitcher re-entry per game.
- One pitch = one inning.
- On the second mound visit, the pitcher must be removed.
- The 3 inning limit also applies to any extra inning games.
Base Running
Stealing, sliding & advancing
- Courtesy runner for the catcher is allowed with two outs.
- Players must slide on close plays — malicious contact without sliding = automatic out.
- Stealing is allowed only after the ball crosses the plate.
- Balks are prohibited but will not be called.
- Runners may advance all bases including home (passed ball or wild pitch).
- The batter may NOT advance to first base on a dropped third strike.
- Runners must avoid contact with defensive players at home plate. Failure to do so will result in the runner being called out.
- Players may not slide head first except when returning to a base. Players sliding head first when advancing to the next base will be called out.
Game Format
Innings, run rules & time limits
- 6 inning games during round robin play. In the case of a tie, there will be up to 2 extra innings (for a total of an 8 inning game).
- For extra innings, the last batter out from the previous inning starts on second base with one out.
- No fake bunting. Once a batter squares to bunt, they may not pull back and swing.
- If tied after 8 innings, the game is a tie and seeding criteria will determine placement.
- No inning starts after 1 hour 30 minutes during round robin play, except in the case of a tie game.
- No time or inning limits for championship round games.
- 12-run rule after 4 innings (3.5 if home team ahead); 10-run rule after 5 innings (4.5 if home team ahead).
- No metal spikes allowed.
- In round robin play, the home team is determined by coin flip.
- In bracket play, the higher seed has choice of home or away.
- Home and visiting teams are responsible for verifying the final score with tournament officials immediately following each game.
Bracket Seeding Criteria
How seeds are determined
- 1. Win/Loss Record
- 2. Head-to-head (2-way ties only)
- 3. Total runs allowed
- 4. Total runs scored
- 5. Coin flip
- 6. If #1–#5 cannot determine seeding, it will be settled by a dizzy bat race.
Weather Policy
Rain, delays & format changes
- Organizers will attempt to complete all games.
- Games are considered complete after 4 innings (or 3½ if the home team is leading).
- Format may change due to weather.
- Tournament officials reserve the right to modify schedules, game formats, time limits, and tournament structure as necessary due to weather, field conditions, participation levels, or unforeseen circumstances to ensure the successful completion of the tournament.
Umpires & Conduct
Sportsmanship & final decisions
- Failure to comply with tournament rules, policies, or directions from tournament officials may result in warnings, ejections, forfeiture, or disqualification at the discretion of tournament officials.
- There are no protests and the decision of the field umpires is final.
- Rules interpretations may be discussed with tournament officials.
- Zero tolerance for umpire disrespect and unsportsmanlike conduct between players, coaches, and spectators.
- Good sportsmanship, including postgame handshakes and high fives, is expected following each game.
- Be nice! We're doing this to teach kids to be good humans.
Additional Information
Venue rules & the fine print
- Four batting cages are available on a first-come, first-served basis: two between Fields 1 & 2 and two between Fields 2 & 3.
- Alcohol is prohibited at the tournament and on the grounds.
- No pets/dogs allowed in the field area; dogs must be leashed at all times.
- The playground is available for children to enjoy and is used at their own risk. Children displaying unsafe behavior, bullying, or inappropriate language may be asked to leave the playground area.
- Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising their children at all times while attending tournament activities.
- No walk-up songs or personal music during games.
- Artificial noise makers including cowbells, air horns, whistles, and similar devices are prohibited.
- Spectators and players may not intentionally distract players during live play.
- Please be respectful of the facilities and surrounding areas.
- Teams are expected to leave dugouts and warm-up areas clean and free of trash before exiting.
- Field 4 (softball field) will be reserved for the Home Run Derby and will not be available on Saturday for team warmups or practice activities.
- Smoking, vaping, and tobacco use are prohibited within the playing complex and are permitted only in parking lot areas.
- Outside food and beverages are discouraged, with the exception of water, sports drinks for players, and dietary or medical necessities. We hope you support our concession stand!
Home Run Derby
Divisions, entry & prizes

Registration for the Home Run Derby can be completed prior to the event via Venmo (@HaywardLittleLeague) or in person at the concession stand on Saturday. For Venmo registrations, please include the participant's name, age, and team in the payment description.

Foul Ball Challenge
- Fans who catch a foul ball during the tournament can bring it to the concession stand for a piece of candy, courtesy of Tremblay's Sweet Shop.
Blue Crew Appreciation
- Tips collected through the concession stand Blue Crew bucket go directly to our tournament umpires. Most are high school age and spend their summer days at the ballpark simply because they love the game.
- These young men are excellent role models who give back to youth baseball while helping make this tournament possible. Thank you for supporting our Blue Crew throughout the weekend.

- Games played on Field 1 will be streamed on GameChanger as much as possible throughout the tournament.
